New Websites and More Changes

Sorry I haven't posted in quite some time...real life has been quite interesting lately...but I've had the time to create three new song fanlistings AND convert all of mine over to Enthusiast....now, the next order of business is to rejoin a lot of fanlistings again. But, for the time being, here's the links for the "Inside the Fire", "Bad Girlfriend", and "Shakin' Hands" fanlistings.

Hard Decision

In the wake of my new job, and the increased responsibilities both it and my website (a business related one, not this one) have on me at this point in my life, I cannot in good faith try to continue the upkeep of my over 2000 fanlistings that I am a member of. I will also be getting rid of most of the fanlistings I currently run myself. I mean, I'm 25 now, and as much as I have enjoyed making these sites, I have other things that are more important to me now, and I need to stop using those sites as a crutch and escape from the responsibilities I have in life now. So, if website owners wish to remove me from the list, I understand, but it's something I no longer have the time, energy or inclination to upkeep.

Updates

I'm going to try and remember to make a post every time I update the fanlistings, so that it doesn't look like I never update, even though I try to every two weeks or so. The main reasons I haven't had as much time to play with these sites as I might like is that I've had a combination of family problems and lack of time, what with the summer being the slow season at work. That and the fact is I'm coming to realize I need to streamline the sites I do have to make time for the ones I REALLY love. But, all that aside, here's the fanlistings that were updated this weekend: Arcana, In the Arms of Angels, Justified, Live in Two Worlds, Magical Moments, Scintillation, and Unleashed. I've also made Just Fanatics, Drastic Measures, Opportunity Knocks, and Live in Two Worlds subdirectories, so you can now go to narnia.nevernormal.com, for example, to find Live in Two Worlds now. I'm in the process of making all fanlistings that are now with new owners to automatically switch to the new url...that might take a couple weeks though.

Everything's Done

Got all of my pending fanlistings up and off the ground. I combined the two Huey Lewis songs into one fanlisting site at Through Time and Kayleigh also gave me the Dogma movie fanlisting, so that one's up too.

Been Busy Behind the Scenes

Sorry you haven't seen many visual updates here at nn.com, but I've been going through a rough patch where work's been hectic, and then I got sick, and I'm just now feeling better, so I have more time to devote to my sites. Speaking of which, I just got notification that I was approved to do the fanlistings for "Power of Love" and "Heart of Rock and Roll" by Huey Lewis and the News and "Goodbye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks, so this should be fun. Should have the other two up by next week or so, but, since I pretty much had a ready made layout for the Dixie Chicks song, due to the fact that I already had done one for their Fly album, I went ahead and banged out the first version of Earl Had to Die, the "Goodbye Earl" fanlisting. And, I just got word today that I'm the new owner of the Dogma movie fanlisting, so I'm gonna work hard to make a great layout for that one too!

Layouts Needed

Yes, even I have realized that some of my layouts for my fanlistings are in need of a refresh, and I plan on working on them, but I'll have to find time for it around all my work hours and such, so please excuse me if they're not always the best layouts, but I felt that some of them need a new outlook, if you understand my meaning. I'm also working on including more information about some of these fanlistings when and where it's appropriate now that I have fewer fanlistings and can devote more time to those that I do have left.

Getting Rid of Deadweight

Okay, when I went through to update the info on all my sites, which I've been lax on lately due to the holidays and all such nonsense, I realized that there were quite a few sites that haven't been updated in months, mainly due to the fact that nobody's joined the fanlistings. I've adopted out quite a few, and those remaining ones, well, I'm just going to put in a closed form to TFL.org, since noone seems to want them.

Adopting Out 26!

I have recently come to the realization that my fanlistings are taking up more of my time and my life than is healthy for someone my age. So, with a heavy heart, I'm giving away 26 of my fanlistings. If you're interested, you can apply for them here.

Member Updates

Okay, didn't realize that this project would take me longer than I had anticipated. However, I basically only have the unicorn and now half of the stars fanlistings to go through before I'm done, so I'm going to go through and approve all new members for all other fanlistings except those two so that the staff at TFL.org don't feel like wringing my neck 'cuz I haven't updated in forever.

Not Adding Members

Until I've finished going through all my fanlistings, checking to make sure all the urls are accurate on both ends, I will not be adding any new members, so as to not complicate this task for myself. That is not to say they won't be added when I'm done, just that until I am, I won't be adding any more.

New Fanlisting

Got a lot of fanlistings to update today, and I was also given the monarch butterfly fanlisting by Tracy, so that's up and running here now.

Members Check

I am currently in the process of checking the urls for members of all my fanlistings, starting with the smaller ones and working my way up. I am no longer emailing deliquent members for not having a link back to my site- I will simply delete their url link. If, at such time as they add my link back to their site, they can submit a information changed form, and I will gladly put up their url once I have verified that my link is present.

New Fanlistings and a New Layout

Been really busy with work lately...hate the summer time- not enough customers, and the girls come out of the woodwork...anyways, was given back my Shannon Elizabeth fanlisting, and was also given the fanlisting for Quizilla.com....if that wasn't enough, I also put together a new layout for my Rum and Coke site from some pictures Rich took with our new camera a couple weeks ago. And, speaking of pictures, put up a couple new ones of me and Az at Flirt here....enjoy! I'm also going to try and work on the 80 some backlog of changed URLs to fanlistings I belong to...should be finished with that in a couple weeks!

Fanlisting Updates

Due to the fact that I am having to reformat two whole computers because some bug in the system wouldn't allow me to access either yahoo.com or hotmail.com, I do not have FTP access at this moment, so I'm going to have to wait until some point in the week to work on that. Yes, I know that with phpFanbase, I can update my members with solely the click of a mouse, but since I also keep a couple of hard copies as backups, and I cannot backup something to a computer that's going to be wiped, I will simply wait until everything is totally taken care of, which should be done at some point this week.

Working on It....

I know there are a few fanlistings that I have that are in need of new layouts. However, between the stresses at work and the trying to figure out this new girlfriend deal, I've really not had much time to work on figuring out what kind of new layouts would work for one site versus another. Then, on top of all that, we've got some sort of bug on the computer network at home that won't let us view either hotmail.com or yahoo.com, or even any of its subdirectories, so I'm a little miffed about that. Rich said he's going to try reformatting the hard drive and see if that works....guess we'll see, huh?

No New Members

New Fanlisting

Not much new, except for the debut of U n d e r g r o u n d, my Labyrinth fanfic fanlisting. Other than that, I've been too busy working to do much else...since the summer's my slow season, hopefully I'll have more time to work on tweaking the things on nn.com that need help. I'm working on updating my blogs more often but I have yet to figure out how to put this layout into the header section of WordPress so I can have this in my main page. It's really frustrating what all I don't know about php.

New Fanlistings

Still having blogger issues, but I think I've figured out why Moveable Type wouldn't install correctly. Anyways, simplified the navigation area, so that there's not as much for you to have to scroll down. Also, have been given back the CATS fanlisting I used to run, as well as the one for the B.C. cartoon. I've also got 9 fanlistings up for grabs, so if you're interested, go here and fill out the form.

Two New Fanlistings

I know the timing is a little suspect, but this is the first time in three days I've been online, due to DSL problems, so am uploading the BtVS Femslash Fic fanlisting, and taking back the Leann Womack fanlisting Joey didn't want.

Four New Fanlistings

Big bunch of fanlisting acquisitions: the WS FTP Pro fanlisting from Kay, "The Power of Love" from Joey, "Where Does My Heart Beat Now?" from Heather, and Billy Crystal from Akasha. In exchange of "The Power of Love" fanlisting, I gave Joey the Leann Womack fanlisting.

New Layouts

A couple of new layouts for fanlistings: Take Me Away, the Fly album fanlisting, and also a new one for Just Fanatics. Am still tweaking the css coding for my new blog, so if you see anything unusual, I'm just doing a little trial-and-error to find out exactly what works and what doesn't.

TFL Issues

Found this in my email today...was concerned as to the implications:
The staff would like to bring to your attention a situation that has arisen. A situation that has the potential of causing alot of confusion and also hurt feelings.
Kim (aka badasschick) has decided that things at The Fanlistings are not run to her liking, and has decided to open up her own Fanslist network. The staff is concerned that there will be confusion between the two sites (especially with the names being so similar). We are also under the belief that she has basically stolen the idea and wants to use it to hurt The Fanlistings.
The staff has been trying to do what it can to make The Fanlistings something that everyone will enjoy. We are working very hard to keep this site up-to-date. We feel that what is being done is a slap to our face, as it is being set up by someone who has shown (on this list and on the forum) that she has issues with the staff and Janine.
We ask you all for your support during this time. We are not asking you to do anything to hurt Kim as she tries to do this but we also wanted you to know that we are not happy with the situation.
You can support The Fanlistings Network by suggesting ideas for the site, by reading the archives before asking questions that have been answered just a few days (sometimes hours) earlier, by letting us know if you find a fanlisting is no longer available or is inactive, and even by telling us if you think a staff member is not doing their job.

trademark

Essentially what Kim (whoever she is, I mean no dissing in this) is doing is not a only an infringment of trademark but also copyright. The similarity of the site names would be in US Law a direct violation of both Janine and the staff's own legal rights. It's been said before and will probably be said a million times more, Janine CREATED the idea of a fanlisting and therefore any and all aspects of it belong to her and her chosen associates.

Personally, I believe Becca has good points....and, no, it isn't a generic term, either....Take, for example, Kleenex. Since so many people used the brand name as a generic term to refer to tissue paper for the face, Kleenex, the company, basically lost the copyright on the word kleenex. However, as it refers to thefanlistings.net, Janine created this concept and Kim putting up a group called Fanslist is essentially copyright violation. It has been precedented that two companies with similar names can have a suit if one company can prove that the other, younger company did create a similar name with intent to confuse the consumer as to which was which.
Well that's my five cents on the subject.

New Sites

Boy, I've been busy. You can't tell it from the quick linx, since all of them are fanlistings, but I've been BUSY when it comes to making new sites. Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera) and Now & Forever (Cats: The Musical) are the only two I have now that I didn't make. I got them from Raven, and am extremely grateful for her giving me them. The other four I've put out recently are: New Frontier (CrossGen comix), Playing God (Ares), Requiem for an End (ST:TNG finale "All Good Things"), and Show of Support (BtVS Writer's Guild). I think I'm having too much fun with my Paint Shop Pro..either that, or I have too much time on my hands. Also had to delete my upcoming fanlisting for Viktoria, since I found someone else had already been approved for it. (sigh) ah well, Rich would say that's good, but I still like her sites!
